How to Organize and Prep Your Home This Fall, According to Your Zodiac Sign

As the fall season quickly approaches, many of us may feel a shift in how we want to approach our living spaces. With summer ending, fall can often push us to get things in shape and want a refresh—particularly around organization.

Our personalities and personal traits can be somewhat explained by our zodiac signs. Check out the signs below to see which organizational tip is for you.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Despite your reputation for being disorganized, you enjoy organizing things—but it has to be your style. Setting up specific days (or blocks of time) to organize and tidy is best for you because Mars, the planet of ambition and drive, is your ruling planet. Once a project is underway, you can benefit from your burst of energy and power through all the cluttered spaces. Trying to do things a little at a time isn’t your speed, and that’s okay.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

While getting everything in line and organized may sound great, but following through is quite another matter, right Taurus? However, it doesn't hurt to borrow some of your fellow Earth sign Virgo's organizational talents, and for you, it works best if those reminders are visual. Making a list of everything that needs to be organized might make things easier to complete; a dry-erase calendar or a physical list put on your fridge can help.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Sometimes, focusing on one task at a time may be strongly advised, especially with organizing tasks. However, Gemini, you benefit by taking a few risks and trying something new. Your interests and concentration can change quickly, so you might start a project only to drop it in favor of another. You can take advantage of this by switching to a different organization project when you start to lose interest in the first one. Switching between two to three projects can be a method to finishing them (but don't switch to watching TV or scrolling through Instagram—make each task a productive one)!

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Although it might seem like cliche organizational advice, decluttering is beneficial for a reason. You have a tendency to keep onto things even if you can't remember the last time you used them, Cancer, especially given your sentimental side. Take advantage of the change in the season to declutter and decide what you really need, want, and can let go of. When you don't have to store things that aren't useful to you, maintaining an ordered area is much simpler.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

The best way to embrace and remain consistent with organization is to change your perspective, Leo. Make a goal for how you want your area to look if it is crowded and overcrowded, including the decor, layout, theme, and the whole nine yards. Once you have that picture, divide the task up into manageable chunks. Remove anything that doesn't fit with the vision, for instance. This will give you the inspiration you need to manage your assigned space.

Virgo (August 23 - November 20)

It doesn’t hurt to have a plan when it comes to organizing, right Virgo? To keep your rooms in their best shape, it helps to have designated “zones” with a specific purpose. A significant difference can be made by figuring out what each room's (and a room's section's) intended use is, what can be stored there, and what needs to go. If a piece of furniture in your house doesn't fit into one of the zones? It's worthwhile to reevaluate if you originally needed it.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Your closets can be an underrated area to help you keep things in order, but it can also become your biggest enabler to hide random objects from sight. It’s no secret that style and aesthetics are associated with your sign, Libra, so taking the opportunity to clean out your closet can be more of an asset than you expect. Getting rid of old clothes, clearing out unused items, and making better use of potential storage space are all great places to start.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Making the most of your storage options is an essential step to keeping organized. However, it can be challenging to determine the best storage for particular spaces or items—you enjoy the flexibility, but it doesn’t help if it ends up unused. Looking into personalized storage features can be a good idea for you, Scorpio, as you aren't scared to commit to something a little more fixed. Custom shelving or storage with divisions for particular uses can still work brilliantly, even if you don't choose more permanent features like built-in units (unless you're doing a complete makeover).

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Sagittarius, you're known for being restless, which may make organizing more challenging. Even while maintaining order and cleanliness can occasionally feel daunting, there are instances when we can gain from taking a deeper look at the space we already have and identifying any areas that could be better utilized. It can be easier to stay organized if you take a closer look around your house and see if there are any spaces that could be utilized, like a space where shelves could be constructed, for example.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Often when a recommendation of purging a space of unwanted items is given, it's in service of a payoff, such as making room for newer items. But Capricorn, it's essential to embrace your practical side as you're a determined Earth sign. What doesn't function or forward your objectives? This is only about getting rid of what is stopping you or getting in your way (in the case of clutter, literally in your way). It is not about making room for new things or redecorating your area.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 19)

Aquarius, why not use your creative thinking skills to organize yourself? Since you don't like to follow the rules, go outside the box when it comes to task management and storage. Be a little unconventional. Use different times of day to tidy your space, or repurpose items (for example, use an over-the-door shoe organizer to store crafts or toiletries instead). Discovering what works for you is crucial.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

If we’re honest, all of us are guilty of using storage options as a catch-all just to get things out of the way. Whether it’s a drawer, a corner, or even a room, we can habitually throw random items in the space and forget they exist. Your Pisces nature may incline you to lean more into that habit than others, so taking the time to be intentional about your storage (instead of shoving things in corners or under furniture) can not only be a better organization tactic but can relieve stress when you’re scrambling to find certain items.
